On again off again, Toast is cancelled

Toast Martinborough has been cancelled for the second year in a row, despite its new date of Sunday 16 January 2022.

“It’s devastating. We have been working day and night to make this happen but it’s become clear that Toast Martinborough cannot operate under current Covid-19 circumstances and the traffic light system,” says Toast Martinborough general manager Ariel Codde.

“Organisers and operational partners had pulled out all stops to create a postponement day of 16 January 2022 after not being able to operate on its historical date of the third Sunday in November,” says Codde.

The organisational team had been adapting and re-planning to work along the Covid-19 guidelines but Codde says the impact of the pandemic has created insurmountable issues for holding the event.

“It’s vital we meet the protection framework requirements and at the same time keep our community safe. We’ve run so many different scenarios to accommodate all the moving parts and complexities of a multi-site event, but if we can’t assuredly resolve both of those, we just can’t do it.”

Toast Martinborough had been a sell out for the November date in 2021 and was on track for the same on its rescheduled date in January.

Festival organisers have now reverted to the usual timing and plan to hold Toast Martinborough on 20 November 2022, following what will then be a two year hiatus.

  • All current ticket holders will receive notice from iTICKET with the option to have their tickets transferred to the new event, or allowing them to request a refund on their ticket price. The refund period will be open until 28 February 2022.

  •  Toast Martinborough organisers have announced a new initiative for  January with collaborations between restaurants in Martinborough and Kāpiti Cheese. Find out more here.
