Day 17 in lockdown and Covid-19’s cruel tally comes to four in New Zealand. It’s not good news but thankfully it’s not higher. It’s hard to imagine waking up in a country where the daily tally approaches the 1,000 mark, as it did overnight in the UK (881 last night).
In times like these, there is no choice but to take the best we can from each day; challenging as it can be. It’s a privilege to dip into a refreshing old wine like this one, opened late afternoon as a reminder of the good things in life as opposed to the incredibly anxiety inducing ones we’re all going through to different degrees right now.
The wine for day 17 in lockdown is… 2009 Pegasus Bay Riesling Aged Release
This is an outstanding wine, made by a winemaking team led by Mat Donaldson at Pegasus Bay in Waipara, North Canterbury. It’s medium gold, deliciously ripe citrus aromas lead into a full bodied, fleshy wine balanced by zesty citrusy acidity. Super tasty wine; one of many white wine highlights from Pegasus Bay but in many ways, their flagship wine as such stellar producers of iconic, maverick, delicious Rieslings.
This aged release from North Canterbury; 2009 Pegasus Bay Riesling… outrageously good
Old wine calls for old music and I’m choosing Good Times by Chic to listen to with a cool glass after a hot day. The track is as timeless as the wine of today.
