2019 Palliser Estate Pinot Noir RRP $57.99

This is Guy McMaster’s first vintage managing Pinot Noir at Palliser from the vineyard to the finished product and what a stellar start it is. A beautiful Pinot Noir from one of New Zealand’s smallest wine regions.

This wine puts forward a strong case for Martinborough as a rival for France’s inimitable Burgundy region. All grapes that went into this wine were hand picked, given 18% whole bunch fermentation to add structure and vibrant fruit flavours to this fleshy, full bodied, concentrated Pinot Noir, which has flavours of dark cherries and silky smooth texture.

Crisp acidity adds lightness to the lengthy finish and supple tannin extraction provides support to this beautifully rounded wine.

This is the second time I have reviewed this wine and it has evolved beautifully since the first review.

  • All of Palliser Estate wines are made entirely from estate grown grapes, in this case 60% of them on the Pencarrow Vineyard with the balance from the Waka Vineyard and the winery’s home block.
