Celebrating wines - young and old
Where can you try glasses of high priced, perfectly cellared, 10 year old Pinot Noir from some of New Zealand's best vineyard sites - and try lots of wines like this in one day?
The answer is the 10th annual Winetopia in Auckland on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 October - and tickets are on sale now.
“We wanted to take the serious wines usually found in exclusive trade tastings and put them into an environment which was fun and celebratory," says Winetopia Founder and Event Director Rob Eliott. “We like to find ways to entertain people, but make sure they have deepened their wine knowledge by the end."
Over 80,000 attendees have attended Winetopia events over the past decade across three cities in New Zealand in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
This year Winetopia takes place at the Viaduct Events Centre in Auckland and includes:
Over 50 wineries from all over New Zealand, serving a wide range of varietal wines
Over 250 wines open for tasting
An opportunity to taste $100+ bottles of wine
Restaurants and top food producers offering delicious dishes to complement the wines
A full line-up of talks, tastings and entertainment on the main stage hosted by television presenter and comedian Ben Hurley
Giveaways throughout the promotional campaign to celebrate the 10-year anniversary
A new Winetopia App merging the world of technology and wine enjoyment, allowing attendees to record and rate their favourite wines.
Ten Year Young Masterclasses featuring aged wines from Winetopia’s first year of 2016 - this is where yours truly comes in.
I will be presenting, tasting and uncovering the story behind the wines at the 10th vintage of Winetopia this year in Auckland.
Winetopia Auckland - meet me there
Among other wines I am opening, I'm looking forward to presenting 10 year old Pinot Noirs from Coal Pit in the deep south to Escarpment Vineyard in Martinborough. I know these wines well and am thrilled to have the chance to share their history and what makes them such stellar examples of New Zealand's most planted and popular red grape variety - Pinot Noir.
