So many islands could vie for the title 'Isle of Beauty' but somehow Corsica has claimed it - and inspired a Kiwi winemaker to model his rosés on the classic from this French island in the Mediterranean.
Here is my review of the latest rosé from Dave Clouston; Marlborough winemaker.
2026 Two Rivers Isle of Beauty Rosé RRP $24
Inspired by the dry rosés from Corsica (also known as ‘the Isle of Beauty’), this new release from Marlborough is a clear example of how modern winemaking and attention to detail can capture a European classic style. Two Rivers winemaker David Clouston worked several vintages in Corsica, developing a desire to make a dry rosé in a similar style. This aim is woven through this light bodied new rosé with its modest 12% ABV and light pink colour. It opens with lifted aromas of watermelon and citrus with an energetic palate of summer berries and a bright, mouthwatering finish. Cool fermentation in stainless steel retains the fresh style of young rosés and this one is made to enjoy during the day or late afternoon, preferably in the sun with good company. It represents the forefront of quality in New Zealand rosé today – and superb value for money.
