Festive trio from Tohu
With invitations coming at us from all directions this month, here's another one - to try and enjoy three new wines from Tohu, a South Island based wine producer with wines made from a wide variation of regions - Marlborough and Nelson.
These two regions may be pretty close by, as the crow flies, but they are worlds apart in terms of their climates and soils; two incredibly important factors in determining the style of a wine and how it tastes.
Here are three wines from Tohu, including a beautiful bubbly for Xmas - it's pink but it's dry, as most sparkling pink wines are.
I hope you enjoy trying and drinking these wines as much as I have when tasting them.

2018 Tohu Rewa Rosé RRP $39.99
The windswept, coastal Awatere Valley in Marlborough casts Pinot Noir in a fresh new light in the 2018 Rewa Rosé - a sparkling wine with distinctive aromas of bright, lifted wild berries, red apple and subtle floral notes. Fine persistent bubbles carry flavours of strawberry, cranberry and a twist of citrus on the finish. Lively, and impeccably clean, this wine leaves a lingering impression of elegance and vitality.

2022 Tohu Whenua Matua Chardonnay RRP $29.99
The 2022 Whenua Matua Chardonnay is a beautifully precise expression of Nelson Chardonnay with aromas of white peach, nectarine and subtle citrus, underpinned by delicate oak spice and a hint of toasted hazelnut. This is a full bodied Chardonnay carried by a vibrant line of acidity that keeps it fresh and focused with a lively interplay between ripe stone‑fruit generosity with a taut mineral edge that speaks clearly of its cool climate Upper Moutere origins.

2022 Tohu Whenua Matua Pinot Noir RRP $29.99
Whenua Matua Pinot Noir comes from Upper Moutere in Nelson and is a bright, energetic wine that showcases both a purity of fruit and impressive mid‑palate depth. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry and strawberries come from every sip and are supported by silky tannins. This wine is approachable in its youth and reveals a surprising concentration through the mid‑palate, where savoury undertones and gentle spice captures the character of the cool climate in Upper Moutere and suggest three to four more years of evolution.
