Radburnd Cellars has a new cellar to call home
Four homes in nine years is a lot for anyone, even more so when it involves wine tanks, barrels and infrastructure but now Radburnd Wines has a permanent new home at one of Hawke’s Bay’s most meaningful winery sites - the former Stonecroft Winery.
The announcement means that Hawke’s Bay wineries are creating a legacy in the country’s relatively short wine history with Kate Radburnd’s formal news this week that she has purchased Stonecroft Winery premises from Fistonich Family Vineyards. The Fistonich family represents another incredibly important winery in Aotearoa’s wine history, which was founded by Sir George Fistonich; one of New Zealand’s most impactful winemakers.
The purchase marks the fourth site at which Radburnd has made wine since she founded her eponymous brand in 2017 and it follows the loss of Radburnd Cellar’s original winery during Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023.
“To have our permanent home at Stonecroft feels incredibly special,” says Kate Radburnd, winemaker, managing director and founder of Radburnd Wines.
“I have known Dr Alan Limmer for over 40 years, the founder of Stonecroft winery. This winery is rich in history, Radburnd Cellars will be proud to carry that legacy forward."
The winemaking team has a new addition to mother-daughter Kate and Penelope Radburnd, who have been joined this year by winemaker Sara Macdonald.
The premises may have changed hands but the Stonecroft wine brand remains in the ownership of Fistonich Family Vineyards.
