Spring is here in full force with winds, pollen, hayfever and, more enticingly, a trickle of fresh new white wines beginning to make their way onto store shelves near us all.
The following trio from Soho Wines highlight a strong quality vintage from Waiheke to Marlborough to Central Otago.
18.5/20
2025 Soho Stella Sauvignon Blanc RRP $28
Succulent juicy, mouthwatering new release from Soho. This wine shines a light on the best of New Zealand’s largest wine region and its inimitable ability to produce bold, powerful, dry white wines driven by layers of fruity flavour – think: pineapple, passionfruit, rock melon and mango. Medium bodied with a long finish. Excellent now and over the next two to three years to enjoy its freshest best.
18.5/20
2025 Soho Jagger Pinot Gris RRP $32
Clutha Ridge Vineyard in Central Otago is home to the Pinot Gris grapes that make this powerfully impactful, dry white with its crisp acidity, layers of flavour of nashi pear, crisp gooseberry and a hint of white peach. Its medium body and lingering finish add to the impressive flavours here. Pinot Gris is typically a wine to enjoy in its youth but this wine can evolve favourably over at least five to six years – as well as drinking well now.
17.5/20
2025 Soho Westwood Rosé RRP $32
This rosé pushes pale to new levels, channeling South French pink wines at their driest and best. Carter Vineyard on beautiful Waiheke Island is home to the grapes in this evocatively named rosé, which is full of fresh red berry flavours, underpinned aromas of almond, dried cranberry and a dry flavour from start to finish, supported by a medium body. Great drinking now and over the next two to three years.
